As we noted earlier today, Daniel Bryan has re-signed a new deal with WWE, and after the company signs the contract Bryan will officially be under contract with WWE once again. No word at this time as to the length of the deal.
While Bryan did end up re-signing with WWE, Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio today that the decision to re-sign with the company was a difficult one for Bryan to make, and as of just a few weeks ago it was not a lock that Bryan would re-sign with WWE.
During SummerSlam week, Bryan conducted an interview with Sky Sports and noted that legally he might not have been able to leave WWE after his last deal expired on September 1st, 2018.
“What we just found out recently is that WWE has an option year so that could have kicked in too”, Bryan revealed. “This is the first time in my career, ever – the thing that’s taking so long with all of it is I’ve never hired a lawyer before to look at a contract, so this is the first time I’ve done it, so it just takes longer than usual (laughs),” said Bryan.
According to Dave Meltzer, WWE feeling that they had the legal right to roll Bryan’s contract over for one more year might have been a contributing factor as to why the Smackdown Live star ended up re-signing with WWE, so as to avoid any type of legal battle with the company.
As noted, Bryan took to Twitter to congratulate Cody Rhodes and the “ALL IN” crew on their event this past weekend, and at one point it was heavily speculated that Bryan might make a surprise appearance at “ALL IN” had he not re-signed with WWE:
