An article published by Mediapart on Wednesday has alleged that, with the help of former French president Nicolas Sarkozy and his son Pierre, the price of the 2011 sale of Paris Saint-Germain was more than doubled by Colony Capital head Sébastien Bazin.

The sum the club was sold for is said to have increased from €30m, the sum that QSI were initially prepared to put on the table for the takeover, to €64m, a sum payable in two instalments.

Mediapart have based their investigation on documents relating to the legal proceedings over alleged corruption in the voting to award the 2022 World Cup to Qatar. The anticorruption office of the judicial police, as well as the national public prosecutor for finances, are said to have used notes from the Elysée [presidential] palace and text messages on Bazin’s mobile phone to reportedly show that Sarkozy, the father and the son, as well as former interior minister Claude Guéant helped to drive the price up. Bazin is now the CEO of Accor, a French hotel company, which Mediapart allege remunerated the three men afterwards.
