As reported by L’Équipe, West Ham United and Lyon are very close to an agreement over the sale of Brazilian midfielder Lucas Paquetá.

So fast are the negotiations moving that the 24-year-old may complete his move to the London club before Lyon’s Sunday game with Reims. A first bid of €49m, or €41m plus €8m in bonuses, was rejected swiftly by OL but the Hammers have upped their bid to €57m, split between €42m initially and €15m in extras, which is being considered by Lyon. A counter-proposal was sent back to West Ham which upped the amount to over €60m while changing the structure slightly, say the sports daily.

West Ham, however, have become frustrated by Lyon’s insistence on a higher fee and have considered abandoning the deal but talks resumed last night. The player’s agents have been in London for several days and they too were close to a deal over personal terms with a five-year contract on offer but the Brazilian is yet to make a decision on the move as he is happy in Lyon. Even so, the midfielder is open to a transfer but is concerned about keeping his place in Brazil’s World Cup squad for November. If the move is completed, Lyon, who have many options in midfield, won’t replace Paquetá.
