L’Équipe report this evening that Metz are set to name László Bölöni as their new manager, replacing Frédéric Antonetti after the club’s relegation to Ligue 2.
The Romanian has managed a host of clubs in France, notably with a six-year reign at Nancy in the 90s, while also taking charge of Rennes between 2003 and 2006, as well as short spells at Monaco and Lens.

The 69-year-old, who spent the final part of his playing career in France, has been free since his departure from Panathinaikos in May of 2021.
Bölöni had been the first choice of Lucien d’Onofrio, the agent who recently became advisor to club president Bernard Serin. The club are also set to name a new sporting director. This will not be the former goalkeeper Michel Preud’homme, currently director at Standard Liège, who was initially linked with a move across to France.
Les Grenats finished 19th in Ligue 1 last season, having missed out on the relegation play-off on the final day with a 5-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain as Saint-Étienne salvaged a point in Nantes to leapfrog them.
