Lyon have today released a statement condemning the incidents involving their fans which caused last night’s match against Paris FC to be called off, and announced a ban on future away games for their own fans.

The crowd trouble – which involved flares being thrown and pitch invasions – saw the match abandoned after half-time, with RMC Sport reporting today that OL could be sanctioned with an exclusion from the Coupe de France as a result.

The club has indicated that it will “assume all of its responsibilities” and that it has filed a formal complaint. The club’s security team is now looking to identify the perpetrators, and the club will apply sanctions with “force and determination”, which could include lifetime stadium bans.

Until further notice, groups of Lyon fans will not be allowed to travel to away games, “until the identity of the perpetrators is cleared up”.
