In an interview tonight broadcast on Prime Video, Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappé notably spoke to pundit Thierry Henry on a range of topics, including his style of play and his 9th-place Ballon d’Or finish.

His words transcribed in RMC Sport, the Frenchman also discussed his status at PSG alongside his co-stars Lionel Messi and Neymar, and underlined that the team needed to improve in their style of play.

On whether he is the “boss” at PSG

It’s difficult. When you play with Neymar and Messi, it’s cheeky to call yourself the boss. Now, I’m in a good spell, the team is doing well. We really don’t care about who the boss is. The goal is to put all three of is in the right conditions because we’re game changes. It’s better that way.

On his more selfless side

I told myself that when you want to be a special player, why choose [between goals and assists]? I am the league’s top assister, and in the Champions League as well, which proves I’m not selfish and I’m not just looking to score. I can still do better.

On PSG’s issues with their style of play

We’re aware that we need to do more. When you have three players of that level, you can’t hide from it. We need to do the things that keep us together as a collective. We each have to do our bit.

On the Ballon d’Or

I used to be like that [looking to win it] but when you win important things as a team, you realise that that’s what lifts you up. Every time I thought I could do things alone, we didn’t win.
