According to our colleagues at RMC, Manchester United have formally presented PSG striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic with an offer for next season.
The Red Devils have offered the Swedish international a one year contract with the option to extend for another year should certain targets be met and should the parties agree.
Manchester United have accelerated negotiations for the Swede in recent days. The possibility of a move occurring is strong, despite Manchester United’s inability to offer Zlatan Champions League football, because of their incredible financial pull and ability to match Ibrahimovic’s PSG wages.
Manchester United are currently the only club who can match Ibrahimovic’s 15 million Euro a year salary and the possibility of the player going to the MLS has considerably diminished.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic, from a financial perspective, is believed to be convinced. He is however slightly concerned about the managerial situation. He has asked for certain guarantees and for the name of the club’s manager for next season.
Ibrahimovic would be extremely interested in joining Manchester United if their manager next season is José Mourinho, with whom he worked with at Inter Milan during the 2008/09 campaign.
As for the MLS, certain sides in the United States have not had their final say. Ibrahimovic has always wanted to play in the MLS, but the LA Galaxy option is fading fast.
They have an administrative problem whereby under MLS rules you are only free to pay three players in your squad whatever you want, under the “designated player” system.
The Galaxy already have Robbie Keane, Steven Gerrard and Giovani Dos Santos, and it is not appear likely that any of those three will be taken out of that system or sold before a possible Ibrahimovic arrival. This makes the Swede’s chances of joining the Galaxy very low.
New York Red Bulls (Ibrahimovic has spoken to Thierry Henry about the MLS in the past) and Philadelphia are also positioning themselves, but Ibrahimovic’s enormous salary demands are probably too much for them to handle.
If Ibrahimovic wants to return to AC Milan, then he will have to take a massive pay cut, but it is a possibility, as he considers the Italian outfit to be his footballing home.
Ibrahimovic also has an offer from David Beckham to join Miami in 2018. The scenario of Ibrahimovic at Manchester United for a season and a half before joining Beckham’s franchise is more and more likely by the day.
