According to The Independent, a Yemen-based branch of the extremist Al Qaeda organization has issued a warning to Saudi Arabian Prince Mohammed bin Salman after he allowed WWE to run the Greatest Royal Rumble event, which Al Qaeda dubbed ‘sinful’.
The extremist group went on to condemn Salman for ‘opening the door wide for corruption and moral degradation’ with not only the WWE Greatest Royal Rumble event, but also for allowing cinemas into the country.
The Madad news bulletin furthered its condemnation of the Greatest Royal Rumble stating “[Foreign] disbelieving wrestlers exposed their privates and on most of them was the sign of the cross, in front of a mixed gathering of young Muslim men and women.”
The report points out that the Yemen-based Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula is currently battling Saudi forces in Yemen’s complex civil war.
The Independent report highlighting the Al Qaeda warning is not the only fallout from WWE’s Greatest Royal Rumble, as we noted back on May 1st that WWE 205 Live star Ariya Daivari received death threats after him and his brother Shawn appeared in a show segment carrying an Iranian flag. The threats lead to Daivari issuing an apology for the segment for what he labeled as an “offensive” character.
In the immediate wake of the Greatest Royal Rumble, we also noted that a WWE “Best of Both Worlds” video ad, which ran during the event, prompted the Saudi Arabian General Sport Authority to issue an apology for the ad, which featured women wrestlers, who were not permitted to perform at Greatest Royal Rumble.
