PSG manager Thomas Tuchel’s decision to start Kylian Mbappé and Adrien Rabiot on the bench for last night’s Le Classique vs Marseille was as a result of them turning up late to a team meeting on Sunday afternoon.

Le Parisien reports that Mbappé was furious about the decision, as with Ballon D’Or voting ongoing, every minute of every match counts. When he did come on just after the hour mark, he scored, emphatically so, in the 75th minute to break the deadlock.

Thomas Tuchel had the following to say on the incident post-match:

“I had an enormous amount to think about today, before the match, during the game. I was not really concentrated on the match. I had a lot of things going on in my head, I do not like to play without Kylian (Mbappé), with Adri (Rabiot). We had made plans for days and then we had to change. I was worried, and a bit sad.”

Kylian Mbappé did not comment directly on his being benched when speaking to Canal + post-match, but uttered:

“A great team needs leaders. I can take up that role.”
