AUGUSTA, GA — The 2019 Masters Tournament, golf’s biggest event of the year, kicks off this week at Augusta National Golf Course even as Mother Nature dumps rain on the region. Rory McIlroy is favored to win the green jacket this year and will likely face formidable challenges from prominent names such as Dustin Johnson, Justin Rose, Rickie Fowler, Jordan Spieth and, of course, Tiger Woods. Meanwhile, oddsmakers are anything but optimistic that defending champion Patrick Reed will be able to duplicate his success.

Despite a chance for thunderstorms Tuesday night, the Par 3 contest is slated for Wednesday afternoon with clear, sunny skies on the horizon. The first-round is scheduled to begin Thursday at 8:30 a.m. local time, with the last grouping scheduled to begin play at 2 p.m. The National Weather Service is forecasting sunny skies that day with a high of 82 degrees and a light breeze in the morning.

After that, the weather forecast gets dicey. There’s a decent chance of rain Friday, Saturday and Sunday, which could impact rounds two, three and four.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Masters Tournament this year.

Odds For The Masters

McIlroy is the favorite to win the Masters this year, with oddsmakers giving him about a 12.5 percent chance to walk away with the coveted green jacket, according to Oddschecker.com. This means gamblers who correctly place $100 bet on McIlroy would take home $800.

Dustin Johnson, Justin Rose, Tiger Woods and Jon Rahm round out the top five.

Among the better gambling values this year are Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed.

Koepka won the U.S. Open in 2017 and 2018, as well as the PGA Championship last year. But in his three years playing at the Masters, he’s never finished better than 11th, which is possibly why oddsmakers give him just a 3.23 percent chance to win. Those who successfully place $100 bet on Koepka would take home $3,100.

Reed, meanwhile, won the Masters last year shooting a minus 15 to hold off Fowler. But he seemingly came out of nowhere, having never finished better than 22nd since he stared playing in the tournament in 2014. Oddsmakers say his chances are slim at best to repeat — just 1.23 percent. Those who successfully place $100 bet on Reed this year would take home $8,100.

The 2017 champion, Sergio Garcia, has a slightly better chance at 1.96 percent, while 2016 winner Danny Willett’s chances are a tiny .4 percent.
