According to a report from Dernières Nouvelles d’Alsace, RC Strasbourg’s Karol Fila will move to Belgian side SV Zulte Waregem on loan until the end of the season. The 24-year-old will not be included in Sunday’s Ligue 1 fixture against Toulouse FC.

The loan comes with no option to buy, but the club may look to sell him in future. Fila’s time in Alsace has been marred by injuries, having played just 45 minutes in the French top flight this season. Last season, he was employed mainly as a substitute, making just 16 appearances.

The defender arrived at Strasbourg in 2021, hoping to take the first-choice spot at right back. During his time on the sidelines, Le RCS have since acquired the services of two more players in his position: Paris-Saint-Germain loanee Colin Dagba and Frédéric Guilbert. Guilbert was at Strasbourg last season on loan from Aston Villa, and had played all but one of their 38 league games. He was recently bought outright by Le Racing for an undisclosed fee.

Fila will now help to revive Zulte’s season in the Belgian Pro League, as they sit 16th of 18 in the relegation zone: just 12 points separate the bottom eight teams.
