While all has been relatively quiet on the Vince McMahon XFL front as of late, new details have emerged regarding the possibility of McMahon reviving the failed football league, and the possibility seeming more like a reality.

According to PWInsider.com, the current plan is for McMahon to bring the XFL back sometime in 2020, and the WWE production team is working on video packages to promote the return of the league.

Between now and then, McMahon will be working on building an infrastructure for the league, which would entail coaches, players, facilities and more, hence the project not commencing until the 2020 “season”. When McMahon first launched the XFL, back in 2000, it took one year from when the announcement was made to the first game being played.

According to Brad Shephard, who initially broke the story of McMahon potentially reviving the XFL, some kind of announcement regarding Vince and his “Alpha Entertainment” projects, which could include the XFL return, is expected to be made tomorrow.

The original XFL launched in 2001 as a joint venture between NBC and WWE, and it closed shop after only one season of play.

With 𝟭𝟬𝟬% 𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘆, Jan. 25th has been the planned date for WWE to announce it for some time. I have not heard that it’s changed, and I received an update yesterday which basically reflected that. There’s a lot going on this time of year in WWE, it’s very hectic. https://t.co/U5oPIdUWnS

One interesting point yet to be mentioned on a 2020 start date – The NFL labor deal expires after the 2020 season. This could give the XFL an opportunity to go after NFL players after its first season, depending on how it plays out. https://t.co/96ztF6RTX7
